Feasibility cum RFI response for TDF projects
Development of Segmented Rubber Tracks (SRT) for Armoured Fighting Vehicles
Project Description
The Armoured vehicles weigh 14-20 tons. Various armoured vehicles are currently equipped with steel tracks, which are proven to be strong and durable but are also bulky. Steel tracks generate high noise and vibrations, leading to crew fatigue and causing damage to roads.
Rubber tracks with steel or composite chords offer a solution to these issues. They can reduce overall weight by 40-50% compared to steel tracks, significantly lower noise and vibration levels (by up to 50-70%), and increase the vehicle’s top speed by 10 km/h.
Under the current project, it is proposed to undertake the technical development of rubber tracks for armoured vehicles.
Functional and Operational Requirements
Weight of tracks should be a minimum of 30% less than steel tracks, the width of the track should be at least 300 mm, and the pitch should be 140 mm to ensure proper compatibility with the existing sprocket.
