The UK India Advanced Manufacturing Partnership initiative, delivered by Innovate UK KTN, aims to map key emerging opportunities for creating India-UK research and innovation links in various fields of the advanced manufacturing sector.
India and the UK share strong economic and social ties. India is the second-largest investor in the UK. As of 2019, Indian companies in the UK generated 48 billion pounds and employed roughly 105,000. The UK is also the sixth-largest foreign investor in India, with a total investment of around US$ 31 billion till September 2021. Both countries also share strong cultural ties, with the United Kingdom having an Indian diaspora population of over 1.8 million.
To take forward the existing research and technology related to the next level to meet the challenges emerging from climate change issues, new policy moves, and technological changes, both countries have agreed to work together to: share knowledge and expertise regarding advanced materials, digital manufacturing, smart supply chain, sustainable manufacturing, and artificial intelligence; provide scientific support to policies and regulatory aspects including ethics; and promote dialogue in research and innovation.
Innovate UK has identified a need for a multi-year, bilateral research and innovation (R&I) partnership with India on Advanced Manufacturing and Materials to be backed up by funding commitments from both sides. Delivered by Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), the UK’s innovation network (www.ktn-uk.org), the UK-India Advanced Manufacturing Partnership initiative requires a long-term vision and a well-coordinated portfolio approach to establish a credible framework for a closer strategic partnership. Further, KTN has commissioned an Innovation Study on Digital Manufacturing and Connected Supply Chains to Finovista, India & Unconventional Connections, UK.
