4.03 Talk Series on Modern Energy Cooking under Phase IV, Advancing eCooking: Recognizing Innovation in Induction Cooktops.
The third session of the Talk Series on Modern Energy Cooking under Phase IV was successfully organised on 12th June 2025 by the MECS programme through its in-country partner Finovista, in collaboration with CLASP. The competition was administered by CLASP and funded by UK aid and the IKEA Foundation, through the Efficiency for Access Coalition.
This virtual dialogue marked a key moment in advancing the clean cooking movement with the announcement of the 2024–25 Global LEAP Awards Winners and Finalists for Induction Cooktops. The session also witnessed the launch of the 2025 Buyers Guide for Induction Cooktops, a go-to resource for performance-based product comparisons.
The session began with opening remarks by Dr Simon Batchelor OBE, Director of MECS, followed by special remarks from Prof Debajit Palit, PhD, Centre Head, Centre for Climate Change and Energy Transition at Chintan Research Foundation (CRF).

The Global LEAP Awards competition assessed 11 induction cooktops from seven different companies through comprehensive laboratory & user testing conducted in both Kenya & India. Four outstanding products were recognised:
- Best Overall Product: EPACK Durable SLIM TMDN stood out for its exceptional balance of technical performance, user satisfaction, & affordability.
- Consumer’s Choice Award: BURN ECOA Induction Cooker (IDC) A81 was celebrated for its user-friendly design, intuitive interface & ability to efficiently prepare a variety of local cuisines.
- Highest Performance Award: Tefal IH201840 delivered top results in lab testing, excelling in both energy efficiency & cooking speed.
- Special Mention Award: Prestige PDIC 3.0 earned recognition for its robust performance & versatility, featuring the only double burner in the competition—ideal for cooking multiple dishes simultaneously & saving time.
