Development high speed recoverable, maneuverable practice target with EW capability for realistic training of AD crew and validation

Project Description

Effective training of Air Defence (AD) crews and the validation of advanced weapon systems depend on the use of realistic practice targets that replicate modern aerial threats.

However, current practice targets fall short in several critical areas—they lack the maneuverability, speed, and electronic warfare (EW) capabilities needed to simulate sophisticated, real-world threats. This limitation significantly hampers the ability to create complex and dynamic threat scenarios, which are essential for comprehensive training.

This project seeks to address these gaps by developing advanced training tools that offer improved realism, thereby enhancing operational readiness, crew effectiveness, and the overall performance of surface-to-air weapon systems.

Functional and Operational Requirements

Existing practice targets do not replicate the capabilities of modern aerial threats, particularly in terms of speed, maneuverability, and electronic warfare. As a result, AD crews face challenges in preparing for real-world engagements, and weapon systems cannot be fully validated under operationally realistic conditions. A high-speed, recoverable target with Electronic Warfare capabilities is essential to bridge this gap:

  • A robust practice target capable of simulating advanced aerial threats.
  • Improved training quality for Air Defence crews, enhancing their preparedness for real-world scenarios.
  • Validation of weapon systems under realistic operational conditions.
  • Cost savings through the development of a recoverable and reusable target.

Testing and Certification Requirements

The high-speed recoverable, maneuverable practice target with EW capability must undergo performance, maneuverability, and environmental testing (temperature, humidity, electromagnetic interference). It must meet standards for safety, durability, and operational effectiveness.

Certifications are required from CEMILAC, and DGQA.
