MECS is pleased to publish a report titled “The Role of
Voluntary Carbon Markets in Clean Cooking” written by Climate Focus as part of
a series of publications developed with MECS.

 

Webinar Background

An estimated 4 billion people are still without access to
modern energy cooking services in spite of the transformational benefits that
these services can provide. Affordability and access to finance to scale
implementation remain key barrier. By helping to de-risk investments and
provide an alternative source of income, carbon finance can play a major role
in accelerating the transition to modern energy cooking.

 

Climate Focus has produced a report titled “The Role of
Voluntary Carbon Markets in Clean Cooking” as part of a series of publications
developed with MECS. The report provides an up-to-date analysis of the
voluntary carbon market with a particular focus on clean cooking projects. It
comes at a particularly interesting time for the voluntary carbon market, where
issuance and retirement volumes have been rising substantially together with
overall increases in prices for voluntary carbon credits -reflecting the strong
support for emission reduction initiatives that generate carbon credits.
However, increasing concerns are being expressed around the need for higher
standards of integrity, transparency, and reporting rigour.

 

During the Webinar, Hilda Galt, a Lead Consultant at Climate
Focus and lead author on the report will present the findings of the report
which will be followed by a panel discussion where representatives of a number
of leading groups, representing diverse perspectives including project
development, carbon certification, and research, will offer their perspectives
on recent developments.
