Feasibility cum RFI response for DRDO’s TDF projects

Development of CW TWT for ASPJ

Project Description

The Active Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ) is a vital part of electronic warfare systems, designed to protect airborne platforms from radar-guided threats by interfering with enemy radar signals. The CW TWT (Continuous Wave Traveling Wave Tube) is a core component of the ASPJ, enabling the generation of high-power RF signals essential for jamming and deception operations.

However, the current dependence on imported CW TWTs limits operational flexibility, increases overall costs, and introduces logistical challenges related to procurement and maintenance. Developing an indigenous CW TWT solution is crucial to achieving strategic self-reliance, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers, and ensuring long-term sustainability for defense operations.

Functional and Operational Requirements

This project addresses a critical capability gap in electronic warfare systems, ensuring operational independence and improved performance. It aligns with national objectives of indigenization and self-reliance in defense technology, while also addressing the following:

  • Deployment-ready and fully functional CW TWT prototypes meeting ASPJ requirements.
  • Enhanced electronic warfare capabilities for the armed forces, improving survivability in contested environments.
  • Test and evaluation reports validating performance under operational conditions.
  • Manufacturing and maintenance guidelines for scalable production.
  • Documentation for integration with existing ASPJ systems.

Testing and Certification Requirements

The development of CW TWT for ASPJ must undergo performance, power output, and reliability testing. It should meet standards for electromagnetic compatibility, thermal management, and operational durability under varying environmental conditions.

Certification is required from DGQA, IAF, and BIS.
