Feasibility cum RFI response for DRDO’s TDF projects

Development of Pulse TWT for ASPJ

Project Description

The Active Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ) is essential for safeguarding airborne platforms from radar-guided threats by jamming and deceiving enemy radar systems. A critical component of the ASPJ is the Pulse TWT (Traveling Wave Tube), which generates high-power RF pulses necessary for effective jamming operations.

However, the current reliance on imported Pulse TWTs results in high costs and significant logistical challenges, especially in terms of procurement, maintenance, and supply chain management.

Developing an indigenous Pulse TWT solution is crucial to overcome these challenges, meet specific operational requirements, and ensure self-reliance in critical defense technologies, enhancing national security capabilities.

Functional and Operational Requirements

The development of an indigenous Pulse TWT is critical for strengthening India’s electronic warfare capabilities, reducing foreign dependency, and ensuring operational readiness. The new developed tool should cover the following:

  • A fully functional, indigenously developed Pulse TWT for ASPJ systems.
  • Reduced costs and dependency on imported components, enhancing supply chain resilience.
  • Improved electronic warfare capabilities for Indian armed forces.

Testing and Certification Requirements

The development of Pulse TWT for ASPJ must undergo performance, power output, and reliability testing. It should meet standards for electromagnetic compatibility, thermal management, and operational durability under extreme conditions.

Certification is required from DGQA, IAF, and BIS.
