Development of Ultra high-power supercapacitors and Pulse power modules along with supercapacitor management system
Feasibility cum RFI response for DRDO’s TDF projects
Supercapacitors provide rapid charge/discharge capabilities, high power density, and longer life cycles compared to traditional batteries. They are essential for applications needing instantaneous power bursts, such as directed energy weapons, railguns, and electric vehicles.
However, India currently relies on imports for advanced supercapacitor technologies. Developing indigenous ultra-high-power supercapacitors and pulse power modules is crucial for achieving technological self-reliance, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers, and fulfilling the energy demands of defense applications. This will enhance India’s capabilities in critical sectors and support the growth of domestic technology solutions in defense.
Functional and Operational Requirements
This project is pivotal for addressing high-power energy storage and delivery needs in critical defense systems, including directed energy weapons, railguns, and hybrid vehicles.
The new tool should address the following:
A.) Indigenous ultra-high-power supercapacitors and pulse power modules tailored to defense and industrial applications.
B.) Enhanced power storage and delivery systems for high-intensity operations.
C.) Reduced dependency on imported technologies and improved cost effectiveness.
Testing and Certification Requirements
The development of ultra-high-power supercapacitors, pulse power modules, and supercapacitor management systems must undergo performance, power density, and cycle life testing. It should meet standards for thermal stability, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility.
Certification is required from DGQA, and BIS.
