Feasibility cum RFI response for DRDO’s TDF projects

Design & Development of indigenous containers for ABA (Air Borne Article) with provision of shock sensors & nitrogen filling

Project Description

Airborne articles, particularly missile systems, require secure and controlled environments during transportation and storage to prevent any potential damage and ensure they are ready for deployment at all times.

However, existing solutions often lack advanced shock monitoring and environmental control capabilities, which increases the risk of damage to sensitive systems. This can compromise the integrity and functionality of critical defense equipment.

Therefore, there is a pressing need for an indigenous solution that not only addresses these operational challenges but also ensures higher levels of protection. Developing such a solution will reduce reliance on imports, strengthening self-reliance in defense technology.

Functional and Operational Requirements

The absence of advanced storage and transport containers for airborne article that can monitor shock events and maintain a nitrogen-filled environment increases the risk of damage, environmental degradation, and reduced operational readiness. A robust and indigenous solution is required to enhance the safety and reliability of airborne article handling and should cover the following:

  • Prototypes of indigenous airborne article containers with integrated shock sensors and nitrogen filling provision.
  • Test reports validating durability, environmental protection, and shock
    monitoring capabilities.
  • Maintenance and operational guidelines for handling and reuse.
  • Scalable manufacturing plan for full-scale production.

Testing and Certification Requirements

The indigenous containers for ABA must undergo shock resistance, environmental testing (temperature, humidity), and pressure stability testing. It should meet standards for nitrogen filling and sensor accuracy.

Certification is required from DGQA, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
