Rapidly deployable sandbag alternatives for blast protection
Project Description
Traditional sandbags, though widely used, are labor-intensive and time consuming to deploy. They also pose logistical challenges in transportation and storage.
A rapidly deployable alternative to traditional sandbags will provide a more efficient solution for emergency and defence applications. This innovative design will ensure quick deployment, high durability, and ease of use in flood control, combat zones, and other critical situations. It will address the limitations of traditional sandbags, improving readiness and response capabilities during emergencies and enhancing protective measures for blast protection and other critical scenarios.
Functional and Operational Requirements
Presently sandbags are being utilized for providing blast protection whenever require/ Filling of sandbag is a laborious process and the sandbags deteriorate with time when deployed in open conditions., there is a requirement for a rapidly deployable alternative to sandbags with the following innovative features:
- Provide the same or better level of protection than a sandbag.
- It should be modular so that the required shape and size can be generated quickly.
- It should be much lighter than a sandbag.
- Should have long life even when exposed to elements.
- Should allow compact storage when not in use.
Testing and Certification Requirements
The rapidly deployable sandbag alternative for blast protection must undergo blast resistance, durability, and environmental testing (temperature, humidity, UV exposure). It must meet standards for quick deployment, reusability, and storage.
Certification is required from defence bodies like NABL, DGQA, and DGAQA.
